Tracy Crosswhite, Seattle PD detective

dugoniTracy Crosswhite was Seattle’s first female homicide detective.  She works with Kinsington Rowe, Vic Fazio and Delmo Castigliano on the city’s best homicide team. Tracy has some unusual talents: she was a former chemistry teacher, a sharp-shooter and something of a legal scholar. Both her legal knowledge and her motivation to become a detective comes from the trauma of her sister’s disappearance and the ensuing trial. She has never believed that they condemned the right man.  In the Clearing (Amazon/Thomas & Mercer, 2016) is the third novel in the series.  It involves Tracy in the forty-year old alleged suicide of high school senior Kimi Kanasket.  Robert Dugoni is also the author of the David Sloan series.

Maddy Maclin of Celosia, NC

macklinMadeline Maclin is a former Parkland, NC beauty queen turned Private Eye. Because business is slow, Maddy agrees to go with her old pal Jerry Fairweather to the nearby town of Celosia to check out a house that he has inherited from an uncle who died suddenly from a heart attack. Jerry is pleased to learn that the house is supposed to be haunted–he wants a chance to test the psychic powers he claims to have–and Maddy soon finds things to investigate in Celosia.  The eccentric denizens of the town provide plenty of comic relief.   Evil Turns (Poisoned Pen, 2016), the fifth book in the series,  concerns the body of an unidentified man  covered with strange occult symbols.   By the way, North Carolina resident Jane Tesh is a retired school librarian.
